This is becoming a little bit of a regular event, which is great. A group of artists is meeting online to share their latest stories as though we were in an art walk in small, picturesque town! Of course, we are meeting in the metaverse instead!
Several artists are taking part again. It gets a little more popular each month although December is never a good time to set some time aside for this. So, who is standing in this chilly street with me?
First up has to be the organizer of the art walk, Katrina Gunn. Katrina is a very talented artist and has written this month about her surprise (and gratefulness) to be recognized for her work in the Regional Veterans Administration healthcare system Creative Arts Festival. She submitted three entries to different categories of the festival and learned, this week, that she had one first prize and two second place awards in the watercolor, charcoal and oil painting competitions! And received real medals as well! This is her first prize watercolor painting:
You can find the complete article describing the festival and her entries here. Congratulations to Katrina!
Next is Dorothy Berry-Lound who has found her piece of paradise in Tuscany in Northern Italy. What a place to be an artist! However, her article is a very interesting and intriguing story about how she has evolved from painting the scenes around her (often from a photograph she has taken) into a much more abstract art that involves pouring acrylic paint and using a plasterer’s trowel to spread the paint to create the final painting. She provides a great deal of information about exactly how this is done and has illustrated it with the various earlier attempts that didn’t really work for her. Fascinating! And here is the final version of the abstract art:
Fellow photographer Jim Hughes can always be relied on to stretch the imagination and this month he has written about the opportunities to be found around a small icy stream. Getting close and personal (hopefully not too close on icy rocks) he has produced a range of interesting macro studies of the ice, water, and rocks. Here is one example of his work, but the whole article is well worth reading!
Finally, another painter who goes by the name of Sienna Blue (I think because that is her favorite color combination). Sienna has written about some of her recent work including a delightful trading card that she made for her friends with a small bird peeping out of the hole in the birdhouse:
But I feel that I need to show one painting with her trademark colors:
You can see more of her work on her blog including the paintings she is displaying on this month’s art walk here.
I hope you have enjoyed this display of art for December. We will be back, I’m sure, in January.
